We have watched and read a lot since the home going of Billy Graham a few days ago. We have read the great accounts from two of his children, Franklin Graham and Anne Graham Lotz as they have shared heart-felt memories of their father. We have thought ourselves of the many memories of watching the Billy Graham Crusades on television while we were growing up. Memories … we all have many of the Reverend Billy Graham.
One of the clearest memories that I personally have of Billy Graham, took place on September 14, 2001. It was three days after the 9/11 attacks on the United States and several people and even more television cameras were focused on the National Cathedral in Washington DC. The remarks of Billy Graham that day lasted only about 11 and a half minutes, but his message was an incredible one.
The quote I remember most from that message is when Rev. Graham said, “We’ve seen so much that brings tears to our eyes and makes us all feel a sense of anger. But God can be trusted, even when life seems at its darkest.” Words that still ring true today and still give us comfort many years later.
On February 21, 2018, Billy Graham, took his final breath on this earth. He knows no more of the things that brings tears to our eyes. He is home! Home with the Savior that he preached faithfully about for many decades. Home in Heaven. Home to his reward. The world will no doubt miss Billy Graham. The world is a better place because of him. We are thankful for his ministry and a race well run and we look forward to the day, when we too will see Jesus face to face.
